VR mobile, just like teleport.

How would it be if you were able to transport yourself on the other side of the planet in just 10 seconds?

What would you do once there?

What if a friend of yours decided to help you do this?

There is only one device that allows teleportation, and that device is the smartphone. We all have the smartphone in our pocket at all times. We are in front of a powerful computer just some of the time. This is why mobile VR is the answer, if you are on holiday and it is one of those perfect moments you say “ I wish Mark, or John or Maggie was here”.
They can be there, just with the device that is in your pocket. They may not be in front of a pc anyway, so for them the smartphone is the answer too.

What are then the best solutions to bring VR to each one of us? I choose some of them I believe are really promising.

First: 360 cameras. They can fit in our pockets and some of them start to be as small and portable as the smartphone and in two or three cases, they are part of the smartphone!
The best attempts to do this are here, GoPro has its new 360 camera: http://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/4/20/15355234/gopro-fusion-camera-360-spherical-sample-video

The most ambitious in terms of smartphone capabilities are the two insta360, one for iPhone:

...and one for Android, sorry no Windows version yet!

I believe with these sort of devices we will be able to capture a moment and make other people live it again.

What about the second part then? How to relive it? Mobile is still the imperative, but all those big cardboard and plastic boxes do not look like mobile to me, what do you think?

Someone found a way to make them portable though, 3 companies I believe pioneering the VR vision, one made these big boxes soft, so you can carry them around without breaking them, although I doubt they are going to be easy to carry around:

The most amazing versions I found so far, the ones that remind me most about the “Black Mirror” concept( see previous blog post) are these, and they fit your pocket and are as big as a smartphone or a small 360 camera.

Imagine having 2 smartphones in your pocket (some of us carry them already) and being able to create content that other people is able to immerse into! Even better, imagine when the smartphone and a pair of sunglasses do it all.

I believe when miniaturization will do its job we will have it, VR mobile, just like teleportation.
What do you think about it? I want to hear from you.
